New Years resolutions are overrated.
Every year when the clock strikes 12, and even before, we set New Years resolutions. My question is; why do we even set some new years resolutions? What is the purpose for having new years resolutions?
A new years resolution seems very overrated, because we give so much effort in setting them and not fully commit to them. One of the resolutions is always: I am going on a diet, I will never let negative energy in, I need new love in my life, etc. We give so much credit to the new year, without fully realizing that it depends on us and give ourself the credit to achieve it. We rely on something from the outside, instead of something from the inside. We set to high expectations on somethings without putting in the work.
I speak of my experience. I realized a few years ago that wanting all the things people wish you or you wish upon yourself and others, is not realistic if you don’t put any effort. Other than that it is also like a plan to achieve some of your resolutions. It is not possible to achieve any without some challenges, and that is what the new year resolutions gives us; mere challenges. You want to achieve all your new years resolutions, but looking back at the year at new years eve or in December- you see that some you haven’t achieve- I think in reality: it is more that you never achieved. It was obvious there wasn’t a clear goal. Being healthy all year or going on a diet without a plan or a specific goal will not be of any success. You have to put in the work in new years resolutions.
I have figured out that wishing something will not come without its challenges – so, I embrace the challenges to and take in the risks. To wish for an healthy new year is to put in the work not to get sick but sickness is not in your own hands. The work you put is eating healthy within your budget, and creating a diet base on that goal. To build up your immune system not only are food and drinks important- the body needs to exercise to feel good- so, I feel good about myself. This will be hard, because training is not easy and your body will hurt, but you need to show up for yourself every day, on the schedule you create. The discipline you will be building for yourself. A healthy new year is also prioritizing people in your life- sounds awful, but merely necessary for your own mental health. This requires also the workplace, family and friends. I know you think of everything- just write it all down- you will see that there is work to be put in a new year resolution – it will not magically achieved without any of your or my work. To stay true to your values, being yourself, and putting yourself first that requires all personal development. Not an easy task, but a fulfilling one whenever you are ready. My new years resolutions are merely continuing the journey I set out for myself. I have to put in the work first and not leave it by saying it and so, the challenge continues.
Happy New Year.
