My number 1 trigger, which is a work in progress

After 7,5 months staying and living in the United States of America (USA) I was excited to go back to my home country, Suriname. I was excited, because of how I would be perceived. But I was easily triggered.

There is a lot of cultural, emotional and physical baggage where I grew up my entire life.

You are raise with a set of values, morals, habits and so on.

You want to find on top of that your own identity.

Which for some is such a long process and journey.

Some never find out who they truly are.

For what I know; people have so much to say, there is always something to say and not in a positive way- more in a reproachfully manner.

What you might feel or even hear are in these contexts.

  1. Studying abroad might either give you a status or might be negatively praised
  2. Studying abroad might also be that you will take others their position or status or title
  3. Studying abroad and coming back with or meeting someone abroad might be questioned.

We already are reading an underlying issue that goes deeper than just jealousy.

I also wanted to know if this was just an experience with dating abroad and playing with ones feeling.

Let’s talk or discuss point 1

A few months ago I commented on a friends status.

She was talking about the way Suriname perceived their talents and how others have to value our own talents. But when that happens, we as Surinamers still have a lot to say regarding that praise or that person being talented abroad.

My neighbors, because for me Suriname is a village, has a lot to say for each other, with each other and about each other, positive BUT MORE negatively.

With this blog article, I am not putting my own people to shame, because every foreigner observes us and I can look it from Suriname point and also the layers that Suriname has in Suriname (complicated, yes! So is my country) as from an outsider, who has lived with, talked to and experienced some cultures.

We would all agree in Surinam that we also lack a lot of stuff, even a few of the social skills.

But the main issue is that we don’t have the facilities to train professionals, especially within sports. The only way they can grow and represent Suriname is outside the country. Our borders are wider, and open. As a member of the Caribbean Community and the Latin-American community, we should not only focus in/on our country.

My way in life is to look out for yourself first, before you can look out for one another. Sometimes it is also best to see who wants to be helped, some think they want help, but they want to be cared for, and some really need that little push to step up their game.

We shouldn’t try to be a Suri Allstarz. It means that you already think you made it or that you regret the steps and constantly is on repeat that it feels like complaining.

I get triggered by it easily.
